Computational Designer / CTO
Remote
We are seeking a Chief Technology Officer with deep roots in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) industry to own our technology vision, architecture, and engineering team. You will be a hands-on technical leader who sets the strategy for our web and desktop platforms and drives the integration of 3D/parametric design tools, BIM systems, and AI/ML pipelines into scalable products that automate workflows, validate designs, and generate data-rich geometry models.
You will work directly with the founders, engineers, BIM specialists, and design technology consultants to shape the next generation of our digital solutions, and to turn them from prototypes into production-grade products that clients trust.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Leadership
Define and own the technical vision, architecture, and multi-year roadmap in line with business goals and product strategy.
Make build-vs-buy, platform, and vendor decisions, balancing speed, cost, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
Represent technology in conversations with investors, clients, partners, and the board.
Establish engineering standards, code review practices, documentation, and technical governance.
Team Building & Management
Recruit, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary team of full-stack developers, BIM/computational design specialists, and AI/ML engineers.
Build a culture of ownership, quality, and rapid iteration; set clear priorities and delivery rhythms.
Manage technology budgets, tooling, contractors, and external development partners.
End-to-End Product Architecture & Development
Architect and oversee full-stack applications (frontend and backend) for AEC professionals, remaining hands-on where it matters most.
Ensure systems are secure, scalable, observable, and production-ready across web and desktop platforms.
Own the delivery lifecycle from prototype through release, support, and continuous improvement.
3D & Parametric Integration
Lead the development of custom solutions using:
ShapeDiver and Rhino.Compute (parametric Grasshopper workflows)
Three.js / WebGL (real-time 3D visualisation)
Autodesk Platform Services (APS / Forge) for Revit data and geometry APIs
Local desktop plugins for Revit, Rhino, and other tools using .NET / C#
Define how cloud and desktop BIM workflows connect across Revit, Rhino, ACC/BIM360, and web platforms.
AI/ML & Automation Strategy
Set the direction for intelligent agents built on LLMs, computer vision, and rule-based automation.
Drive geometry generation and fabrication-ready model automation.
Lead model auditing, validation, and compliance enforcement, including asynchronous AI review loops integrated with dashboards.
Evaluate and integrate LLM providers and tooling (OpenAI, Claude, Ollama, and open-source models), with attention to cost, accuracy, data privacy, and IP.
Data Pipeline & Interoperability
Architect robust data exchange between BIM/CAD and web platforms using JSON, IFC, glTF, gbXML, and custom schemas.
Own data models, storage strategy, and governance, including alignment with ISO 19650 and COBie where relevant.
Workflow Authoring & Internal Tooling
Champion visual and code-based workflow authoring with n8n and ComfyUI.
Support BIM content creation and geometry optimization, model checking, fabrication, and asset tracking.
Use the Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps) where it accelerates internal tooling and client reporting.
Infrastructure, Security & DevOps
Own cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP, Firebase), especially for compute-heavy geometry and AI workloads.
Implement CI/CD, containerisation, monitoring, and cost control.
Ensure authentication, authorisation, data protection, and compliance with client and regional requirements.
Essential Skills & Experience
Leadership
8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams or owning technical strategy as a CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, or Technical Co-founder.
Proven record of taking products from concept to production and scaling both systems and teams.
Strong communication skills: able to translate between architects, engineers, executives, and investors.
Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and a need to stay hands-on.
Languages & Frameworks
C# / .NET (Core / Framework): Revit/Rhino plugins, desktop apps, ASP.NET web development.
Python: automation scripting, AI/ML workflows, lightweight APIs (FastAPI, Flask).
JavaScript / TypeScript: full-stack web development, including React and Node.js.
React (Vite / Next.js): data-driven UIs, dashboards, configurators, and automation interfaces.
Databases: SQL and NoSQL (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Firebase).
APIs: GraphQL and REST design.
UI: HTML / CSS / TailwindCSS; Blazor (WASM / Server) is a plus.
Frontend & Visualisation

Prompt engineering and workflow design for geometry and metadata generation and audit flows.
Rule-based model checking and validation.
Computer vision / ML for data extraction from CAD and PDFs (optional).
Experience with ComfyUI or n8n is a strong plus.
Ideal Experience
Background in AEC fields such as architecture, engineering, construction technology, BIM, or digital fabrication is a must.
Experience integrating cloud and desktop BIM workflows (Revit, Rhino, ACC/BIM360).
Strong experience building Revit/Rhino plugins or automating geometry and documentation workflows.
Solid understanding of AEC data formats: IFC, glTF, JSON, Excel-based specs.
